One useful strategy is to try exploiting its explosion.With very big groups, like the ones in The Pain Maze, you may need to fire more than one grenade or rocket. If you do it correctly, you can cause a whole room of Spawns to die before they start attacking. In addition to the explosion, the splash damage from the exploding Spawn will hit other Spawns as well, causing them to blow up. As soon as you see them, take out your Grenade Launcher or Rocket Launcher and begin firing. A group of Spawns are much easier to take out.A rocket's splash damage usually has enough power to kill it in one shot. Shoot a rocket from a safe distance so that it explodes when the Spawn is jumping back after hitting you. Therefore, you'll have to time the Spawn's movement so that it dies away from you. In addition, the explosion it lets off upon being killed can take most of your HP in one shot or kill you. This is mainly because of its speed and the amount of damage it can inflict through the frequency of its attacks. ![]() The Spawn is one of the most aggravating enemies in the game.Any attempts at confrontation in tight areas should be avoided, which can be difficult as the Spawn has a tendency to be found within corners in a way that catches players off-guard if they try to look for spotting them. Limited movement means that is it harder to get away from the Spawn, in order to kill it at distance. In the water is where the Spawn truly shines as the player's movements are severely limited, yet the Spawn seems unaffected when underwater, thus can continue its assault. The Spawn is dangerous in wide open rooms, but even more so in tight spaces. The Spawn has two attacks, a tackle slap-type attack where it flings itself at high speeds towards the player.I can't believe that this map took that little time to complete. Perhaps they can be inspired to create more beautiful maps, in this theme, in the future. The spiderwebs were a great touch.īecause of the atmosphere, that drew me in, I urge the author to go back and give this map more of their artistic touch. Then again I do not enjoy underwater sequences in Quake like I do in other games.įinally, I thought most of the map was highly detailed and atmospheric, but I think that the ending needed more work, but what was done was outstanding despite the time restraints. They are more of a preference of taste and are nothing against the author's wonderful work.įirstly, I did not enjoy the underwater sequence that connected the first two areas. I enjoyed most of this map, for I only have two complaints against it. Set in an ancient crypt which urges the player to explore its secrets. In this map there is great detail and atmosphere combining the golden-orange stonework with bookshelves and glowing torches. Here is my review for Temple of the Bone King by muk0r.
